Filipinas’ Shyness: A Unique Quality

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Filipinas try as much as possible to avoid the feeling of shyness. This feeling is more of a painful emotion that grows when they failed to meet the social demands of the society. It is a kind of anxiety that treats them to thinking that everything they would do should be well thought of first be acted upon.

Somehow it may control or motivate these women to act only when they are allowed to do so by their immediate sorroundings. This is one of the major reasons why mazjority of the Filipinas still remain conventional. What they learned in te past from their grandparents may still be a part of them up to this day. Thus, conservaticy takes its part in the whole process. Winning the respect of other people is ultimately a part of that shyness.

And that is why foreigners end up looking for these women because this is the trait that they do not mostly encounter in their homelands. 1st world countries tend to be more liberal and untraditional. Therefore, by looking outside of the box, they can clearly see how this unique filipina trait could capture the hearts of other nations.

“Hiya” is the value that regulates the Filipinos social behavior. Just as one is very careful not to be subjected to embarrassment or “mapahiya” one must also make it a point not to cause another person’s embarassment. For example, in asking favor, both parties are careful not to offend the other. So if a favor cannot be granted, the person who cannot oblige apologizes for his failure to do so with an explanation that it is not his intention to refuse but that other factors beyond his control keep him from doing so. Conservative and timid. These are the two basic traits one can think of when they are being asked what are the main personalities of a Filipina. Living in a culture of insecuriy towards other nation also added up to the different factors that contributed to what Filipinas know now as sex values. This values are then passed on to different generations and still, there would be no wonder how a little change has been effected up to this day.

Filipinas ties thier families as something that is joined by the sacramental spirituality. Coming from a religious country, these Filipinas try to secure their families. thus protecting them from other outer danger. Along with this practice is the different methods inspired by the aged generations. How filipinas should never be too frank in spilling their emotions towards the oppostie sex and how pre-marital sex is definitely unpermitted. Thus, acceptance of the culture brought by the Westerns are then zeroed down.

The logic is simple, man was made in order to grasp his totality and ability to have children, and women in turn equates this in her capacity to bear them. Different rituals have been taught throughout various generations such as baptism and its sanctity. Marriage is also an important factor in the sex culture since it hones the idea of how men and women live up to the ideals of God.

The essence of a woman, they say, is to bear a child. The woman who concieves soon after matrimony is about to become object of attention of her relatives and of course, her husband. Making it hard for those newly-wed Filipinas who can't bear a child since they will possibly experience the opposite as that of someone who immediately got pregnant.

These different cultures have surprisingly elevated the Filipinas level in the pedestal since western do not get much of this unique qualites from their homeland. Thus, opening the gates of marrying Filipinas rather than their own native women.
